Collio Friulano 2023, Ronchi di Cialla

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is an autonomous region of Italy, in the far northeast corner, bounded by the borders with Austria and Slovenia to the north and east respectively. It's known for making fresh, aromatic wines, often with some skin-contact, that work beautifully with food. Grapes for this wine are sourced from a vineyard in the hills to the Northeast of Lonzano, Dolegna del Collio, in the province of Gorizia - and vines are 50 years old. It ferments in stainless steel and gets a couple of days on skins for texture. It's full of white peach, nectarine and pear with lovely ginger spice and some savoury, almost cumin-like edges. Serious wine for the price.
